Roses are most often associated with love, sensuality, fertility, secrecy, and mystique — and they stand for achievement and perfection. They also represent elegance and femininity. Roses appear in stories from all major world religions as a symbol of miraculous love in the world. The petals of roses symbolize the evolution of humanity. For me, that equals women — from delicate bud to full bloom, petal by petal.
When I was in the process of painting roses, women’s faces began to emerge from the petals. These paintings are my husband’s favorites. He believes they reflect diversity. I hope you see what we see.
